California Contractor License Fingerprinting in Idaho

You’re bidding California work, or opening an office there, and the Contractors State License Board wants fingerprints from you, your qualifier, and every officer on the application. The CSLB’s own estimate for out-of-state prints is three to six months or longer. That’s a whole season of jobs.

I come to your office or your jobsite in the Treasure Valley, capture everyone’s prints on my own Live Scan system, and send them electronically to our California partner company. Our partner company processes and submits them to the California DOJ.

Why CSLB prints take so long from Idaho

For out-of-state applicants, the CSLB generates ink fingerprint cards once your application posts. You take them to a law enforcement agency to get rolled, then send them back with a $49 processing fee. The CSLB itself says that route takes three to six months or longer, because of the extra handling at the DOJ and FBI.

My route skips the cards. The capture happens here, and our California partner company submits in California. I’m not a California Live Scan site, and the CSLB hasn’t endorsed this option. It’s a different route.

Where your prints are taken

I capture your fingerprints here in Idaho, and our partner company processes and submits your fingerprints to the California DOJ. The DOJ and FBI send the results to the CSLB. I never see them.

So your prints are taken in Idaho, not in California. I don’t submit anything to the DOJ myself; our California partner company does that from California. But the capture still happens here. If the CSLB tells you your prints have to be taken inside California, this isn’t the right option for you, and I’d rather you find that out before you pay me. Ask the CSLB first.

Who the CSLB fingerprints

By the board’s own rule, every license applicant, plus each officer, partner, owner, and responsible managing employee. Home improvement salesperson applicants too. If three people at your company are on the application, that’s one stop and $299 each.

How it works

Call, text, or book online and tell me how many people need prints.
I come to your office or jobsite, check each person’s ID, and enter their details from their form.
I capture everyone’s prints on my Live Scan system and check each set on screen.
Our California partner company processes and submits them to the California DOJ, and the results go to the CSLB.

What to bring

A valid, unexpired government photo ID for each person
The CSLB’s Request for Live Scan Service form for each person, with the board’s details on it. The CSLB sends it once your application is posted.
If the CSLB sent you ink fingerprint cards rather than a Live Scan form, call or text me before you book so we can sort out the form first.
Hands scrubbed of grease and drywall dust. A quick wash helps the capture.

Price

$349 for one person, all in: travel, capture, data entry, submission handling, and government fees up to $75.

Two or more at the same stop is $299 each, for every person there. If your agency’s fees are more than $75, you pay only the difference, and I confirm that before anything is submitted. Your CSLB application fee is separate.

Contractor license questions

Do I have to go to California to get fingerprinted for my contractor license?

Not for the capture. I take your prints here and our California partner company submits them in California.

Does the CSLB accept this?

That’s up to the CSLB. Its site gives out-of-state applicants two routes: Live Scan in California, or ink fingerprint cards, a different process altogether. What I do sits between the two, and the board makes its own call. If you want certainty first, ask the CSLB before you book.

Can you do our whole team at once?

Yes, and that’s where the price drops. Everyone needs their own ID and their own form ready when I arrive, and then it’s $299 each.

How long until the CSLB sees results?

The California DOJ usually returns results in under five business days, and some take up to 10. That count starts when the prints are submitted, not the day you book.

Rough hands. Will my prints work?

Maybe, and I’ll be straight with you about it. Years of hands-on work wear ridges down. I’ll work the capture as hard as it can be worked, but I can’t guarantee the state accepts prints from worn ridges. If a rejection is my fault instead, like a smudge or a rushed roll, I re-capture it at no charge. I check every print on screen before I leave.
