California Pharmacy License Fingerprinting in Idaho

If you’ve searched this at all, you’ve seen the line: out-of-state applicants can only Live Scan for the California State Board of Pharmacy if they go to California. The Board’s own packet says about the same thing. Visit California, or use the Board’s ink fingerprint cards rather than Live Scan.

There’s a third option, and it doesn’t need a plane ticket. I come to you here in Idaho, capture your prints on my own Live Scan system, and send them electronically to our California partner company, who processes and submits them to the California DOJ.

What the Board of Pharmacy tells non-residents

The Board’s pharmacy technician packet says a non-California resident may visit California and complete Live Scan. If they can’t, they submit two rolled ink fingerprint cards, and only cards the Board provides are accepted. Card clearances take about six weeks.

My route is neither of those. The capture happens here, and our California partner company submits in California. I’m not a California Live Scan site, and the Board hasn’t endorsed this option. It’s simply a different route.

Where your prints are taken

I capture your fingerprints here in Idaho, and our partner company processes and submits your fingerprints to the California DOJ. The DOJ and FBI send the results to the Board of Pharmacy. I never see them.

So your prints are taken in Idaho, not in California. I don’t submit anything to the DOJ myself; our California partner company does that from California. But the capture still happens here. If the Board of Pharmacy tells you your prints have to be taken inside California, this isn’t the right option for you, and I’d rather you find that out before you pay me. Ask the Board of Pharmacy first.

How the appointment works

You book by phone, text, or online.
I come to you, check your ID, and enter your details from the Board’s instructions and form.
I capture your prints on my Live Scan system and check every one before I pack up.
Our California partner company processes and submits them to the California DOJ. The DOJ and FBI results go to the Board.

What to have ready

A valid, unexpired government photo ID
The Request for Live Scan Service form, filled in from the Board’s Live Scan instructions. The Board lists its agency code and the title for your license type.
Your Social Security number. The Board treats it as mandatory, along with your name and date of birth.

One detail worth knowing: the Board requires both the DOJ and FBI levels. If FBI isn’t selected the first time, it says both have to be redone. That’s why I enter everything straight from your form.

What you pay

$349 for one applicant covers travel to you, capture, data entry, submission handling, and government fees up to $75.

If you and a coworker are both applying, it’s $299 each at the same stop. That’s the price for everyone in the group. If your agency’s fees are more than $75, you pay only the difference, and I’ll confirm that with you before anything is submitted. The Board’s own application fee is separate.

Can I Live Scan for the California Board of Pharmacy from Idaho?

The capture can happen here. I take your prints in Idaho and our California partner company submits them in California. The Board’s own wording talks about visiting California or using its cards. This is a third route it doesn’t mention.

Will the Board accept it?

The Board decides. Our partner company has had results go through to the Board of Pharmacy for Idaho applicants. That’s what has happened before, not a promise about your file.

I already did Live Scan for another California license. Can I reuse it?

The Board says no. A Live Scan done for another agency doesn’t carry over, so you’ll need a submission on the Board’s own form.

How fast will the Board see results?

The California DOJ usually posts results in under five business days, and some take up to 10. That starts when the prints are submitted, not when you book.

What if a print is rejected?

There are two causes, and I handle them differently. A capture problem, like a hurried roll or bad positioning, is on me, and I re-capture it free. Worn ridges from age, medications, or dry skin are a different matter. I’ll work the capture as hard as it can be worked, but I can’t guarantee the state accepts prints the fingers can’t give.
