California Therapist License Fingerprinting in Idaho

Plenty of Idaho therapists want to see California clients over telehealth, or they’re moving there. Either way it starts with a license or registration from the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, and that starts with your fingerprints.

You shouldn’t have to cancel a day of clients for this. I come to your office or home between sessions, capture your prints on my own Live Scan system, and send them electronically to our California partner company, who processes and submits them to the California DOJ.

What the BBS says about applicants outside California

The BBS tells people outside California to use ink fingerprint cards rather than Live Scan, unless they can get to a California Live Scan operator. It puts processing for those cards at about 6 to 8 weeks.

My route skips the cards. I capture your prints here, and our California partner company submits them in California. I’m not a California Live Scan operator, and the BBS hasn’t endorsed this option.

Where your prints are taken

I capture your fingerprints here in Idaho, and our partner company processes and submits your fingerprints to the California DOJ. The DOJ and FBI send the results to the BBS. I never see them.

So your prints are taken in Idaho, not in California. I don’t submit anything to the DOJ myself; our California partner company does that from California. But the capture still happens here. If the BBS tells you your prints have to be taken inside California, this isn’t the right option for you, and I’d rather you find that out before you pay me. Ask the BBS first.

How it works

You book by call, text, or online, around your client schedule.
I arrive, check your ID, and enter your details from the BBS form.
I capture your prints on Live Scan and check every one on screen.
Our California partner company processes and submits them to the California DOJ. The results go to the BBS.

Price

$349 for one applicant: travel, capture, data entry, submission handling, and government fees up to $75.

If two or more clinicians from your practice are applying, it’s $299 each at the same stop, and that’s everyone. If your agency’s fees are more than $75, you pay only the difference, and I confirm that before anything is submitted. BBS application fees are separate.

Therapist license questions

Do I have to travel to California to get fingerprinted for the BBS?

Not for the capture. I take your prints in Idaho and our California partner company submits them in California.

Does the BBS accept prints done this way?

The Board decides. Its site sends out-of-state applicants either to a California Live Scan operator or to ink fingerprint cards, which are a different process from what I do. If you want certainty before you book, ask the BBS.

How long will it take?

The California DOJ usually posts results in under five business days, and some take up to 10. That clock starts at submission, not at booking.

What if my prints are rejected?

A capture mistake, like a smudge or a finger off-center, is mine to fix, and I re-capture it at no charge. I check every print on screen before I leave. Worn ridges from age, certain medications, or dry skin are different. I’ll work the capture as hard as it can be worked, but I can’t guarantee the state accepts prints from fingers that don’t have the ridges to give.

Do you see my results?

No. They go to the BBS. I capture and hand off the prints, and that’s where my part ends.
