By Jim Allen, Idaho Notary Signing Agent, LLC
Since 2018, I’ve proudly served the Idaho community as a notary signing agent, offering mobile notary, live scan fingerprinting, and apostille and translation services. Below, I provide a guide to help you understand the notary process in Idaho, so you can navigate it smoothly and confidently. What Is a Notary?
A notary public is a state-appointed official whose primary duty is to authenticate the signing of important documents, prevent fraud, and ensure all parties involved are doing so willingly and understand the contents. Notaries verify identities, witness signatures, and sometimes administer oaths.Common Documents That Require Notarization
In Idaho, many types of documents often need notarization, including:- Real estate documents (deeds, mortgages)
- Power of attorney forms
- Affidavits and sworn statements
- Adoption paperwork
- Business contracts
The Notary Process in Idaho
- Prepare the Document: Ensure the document is filled out, but do not sign it ahead of time—you’ll need to sign it in the notary’s presence.
- Verify Identity: You’ll need to present valid identification, such as a driver’s license, passport, or state-issued ID. This is to ensure the notary can verify your identity and prevent fraud.
- Appear in Person: Idaho requires the signer to appear in person before the notary. This can be at a designated meeting place or through a mobile notary service like mine, where I come to you for added convenience.
- Sign the Document: Once the notary confirms your identity and willingness to sign, you will sign the document. The notary will then add their official seal and signature, certifying that the process has been conducted properly.
- Record Keeping: Most notaries in Idaho log of their notarizations, which includes details like the date, type of document, and identification used.
Why Use a Mobile Notary?
A mobile notary adds convenience to the traditional notary process by coming to you—whether at your home, workplace, or a neutral location. This flexibility can save you time and stress, especially for urgent or complex transactions.Live Scan Fingerprinting and Apostille Services
In addition to standard notarizations, I also offer live scan fingerprinting and apostille services. If you need fingerprints for employment or background checks, I can provide reliable, certified scans. For documents needing international validation, apostille services ensure your paperwork is recognized abroad.Tips for a Smooth Notarization
- Bring Valid ID: Always have a valid photo ID. Without proper identification, the notary cannot proceed. If you do not have a valid ID, a credible witness can vouch for your identity. The credible witness must know you personally, be willing to swear to your identity, and have valid identification themselves.
- Be Prepared: Make sure the document is fully filled out but unsigned before the appointment.
- Check Requirements: Some documents may require witnesses. Verify ahead of time if a witness is needed, and if so, arrange for them to be present.
